Forge Project Burrito Giveaway

Each year for the last three years, Forge Project has offered the vendors at the Santa Fe Indian Market breakfast burritos and cold drinks to start their busy weekend of sales. The burritos that Forge hands out are more than food to sustain vendors—they are a non-transactional offering to the Native artists who are bringing themselves, their families, and their artwork to Santa Fe for SWAIA.

While Forge is a young organization, we are making intentional choices to mobilize resources and choose to recognize the contributions of Native artists with an act of care. The burrito giveaway also recognizes the importance of carrying on tradition: Breakfast burritos with red or green chile are a mainstay of New Mexican culture, and Forge Project sourced the burritos from The Pantry, a local institution, whose staff organized to fulfill the expanded order.

In 2024, Forge gave away 300 burritos, and in 2025 we handed out 1,000 burritos, enough for every artisan and vendor at market! Thanks to the generosity of the Native Arts + Cultures Foundation, Jessica Silverman Gallery, and many individual donors, Forge fed every vendor in 2025. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped us with Forge’s Burrito Giveaway at SWAIA this year–handing out 1,000 burritos would have been impossible without your help.
