Elderberry Syrup Workshop

Forge Project

Nov 11, 2023

11AM ET

On Saturday, November 11, Forge Project will host a workshop in collaboration with the Center for Indigenous Studies at Bard College, guiding guests through the process of making and canning elderberry syrup.

Elderberry, as a medicine used across a broad swath of the Northern Hemisphere, helps strengthen our immunity for the upcoming colder days.

During this workshop, guests will have the opportunity to learn about the ingredients, the importance of protocol in supporting good relations and healthy ecosystems, and steps involved in preparing and canning elderberry syrup. Guests will also enjoy a communal meal during the canning session.

While the majority of canned items will stock a growing root cellar supporting the gifting and hosting of Stockbridge-Munsee Community members, guests will also have the option to take home a small jar of the syrup or choose to donate their jar for gifting.

Forge Project is working closely with the Stockbridge-Munsee Community to establish and stock this cellar within the tribe’s homeland territory.

This event is open to all ages, with close guardian supervision of children throughout, and families are encouraged to attend.

Please wear shoes and clothing you feel comfortable standing in for long periods, walking, and spending an afternoon outdoors!
